WELLNESS PROGRAM
The Northern Tier Library will sponsor an AMBA Blood Screening event on Saturday, April 24th, 7:00-10:00 AM. A fee of $35 covers tests for coronary disease, diabetes, anemia, kidney disease, liver disease – and more. Optional tests are available for an additional fee (a separate script for your physician is also required). A complete list of tests is available at the library.
To make an appointment, please call 1-800-234-8888, Monday- Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. You will need to provide your physician name and address at the time of your call. This program will be held on the library’s lower level.
 
MOTHERS & DAUGHTERS: PUBERTY FROM 10-13 YEARS
Mothers and their daughters, ages 10-13 years, are invited to join Dr. Kasia Sudol of Bellevue Pediatrics on Tuesday, April 27th at 7:00 PM for a discussion of puberty, nutrition, skin care, safety and good communication skills. Group participation is encouraged to motivate girls to take responsibility for their health and development. Registration is required.

PLANT AND GARDEN SALE
We thought it would never end – but winter is over! Get ready for your spring planting with the library’s annual Plant and Garden Sale.
 
Plant & Garden Sale Pre-Order Deadline – Tuesday, May 18
 
Garden Party – Wednesday, May 19 at 7:00 PM
Get together with other gardeners to talk, trade and have a great time! We ask that you bring three perennials – two to donate to the library’s sale, and one to exchange for a different perennial. If you are feeling energetic or have more perennials that you need to divide, feel free to bring more to donate and exchange. This is an adult event and pre-registration is required.
 
Plant and Garden Sale – Thursday, May 20, 10:00 AM-8:00 PM (yes, 8 PM – even though the library is closed)
Friday, May 21, 10:00 AM-4:00 PM
If you pre-ordered flats and baskets, now is the time to pick them up. If you didn’t order, don’t panic! We’ll have plenty of vegetable, annuals, perennials and garden items for you to browse.
 
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY MEET

Do you enjoy stimulating conversation? Interesting people gather at the Northern Tier Library on the second Thursday of each month to discuss a variety of topics and ideas. The group will meet on Thursday, April 8th, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.   Join us for the lively exchange of ideas and the art of good conversation.   Registration is not required – join us when you can!

Learn how to use PowerPoint to its full advantage, including how to insert a button, a hyperlink, or photographs.
 
Advanced Online Searching - Monday, April 26, 12-2 PM
Learn how to search, not just surf, the Internet. This class will help you develop a critical approach to searching, and learn to make effective and efficient use of specific information tools and sources. The goal is to create lifelong learners who use the Internet to effectively solve problems or make decisions.
 
There is no charge for these programs, but registration is required.
 
DROP IN STORY TIME
Toddler Story Time – kids 2-3 year of age, accompanied by an adult

FICTION CRITIQUE GROUP
If you’re a writer ready for publication and just need some good input from your peers to polish your fiction, we’re the group for you. The Northern Tier Fiction Critique Group is looking for a few good writers to join us at our twice-monthly meetings. We critique novels and short stories with an eye toward helping local writers achieve publication. The group will meet at the library on Monday, April 12th at 6:30 PM. If you’re interested, call Kelly at 412-445-4878.
 
BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
The Northern Tier Library’s book discussion group meets on the last Thursday of each month to discuss various works of fiction and non-fiction. On April 29th, the group will meet at 10:00 AM to discuss Every Last Cuckoo by Kate Maloy. Discussions are informal and open to the public. Please join us!
 
CLASSIC MOVIES
Can the Alaskan gold rush and the fate of the Donner Party be the basis for comedy? Join us for Charlie Chaplin’s silent film classic, The Gold Rush, on Thursday, April 22 at 2:00 PM.
 
KNIT LIT
Crafters of all kinds are invited to join our group on Tuesday, April 20th at 7:00 PM. If you have ever wanted to learn to knit or crochet, this is the group for you! Bring along your latest project, and a copy of your latest read for discussion.
 
PILATES
Pilates is a low stress workout that lengthens and strengthens muscles. A six week series of classes will be held on Tuesdays, April 6-May 11, from 6:30 to 7:15 PM.   A fee of $30 will be charged for the series, or you can pay as you go (space permitting) for $7 per session. The fee must be paid at the time of registration.
 
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SERVING YOUR LIBRARY AND COMMUNITY?
The Northern Tier Library Board is comprised of thirteen residents of the Pine and Richland communities. Several members are appointed by each of the townships’ supervisors, while the remaining members are “members at large” from each community.
The Board is seeking people who have an interest in the library – preferably library users who are willing to make a commitment of time and energy. If you are interested, please call the library at 724-449-2665 ext. 31.
